Sofie seems to always be playing the game ‘I Spy.’ Here she is spying a duck or fish or bouy. Actually, I never know what she spies.
Bark Out Loud. That dog cracks me up!
Happy Sunday!

Remember last week I was worried about the Bald Eagles that were on the Osprey platform. I was worried that we were going to have a turf war over the nest. But, looks like the Osprey family has returned and there is no sign of the Eagles. This means, even though it is rain/snowing outside right now, spring has come to the Mid-Atlantic. Now if only the temperature would follow.
Happy Monday! What Mischief are you getting in to?

Just when we thought that spring was actually here, the sleet and ice are returning today with a possible 15″ snow fall. Oh my. Back to our sweaters and paw balm. We were so liking the smell of the grass.

Crab cages are empty. All the better because we would probably just throw them back anyway. Someday the dogs are going to get their noses clawed. Can’t wait to get that picture.

Today is Thankful Thursday and I want to thank the incredible people at the Chesapeake Conservancy for their endless efforts in keeping the Osprey safe from us humans. Ozzie the Osprey, the youngest of Tom and Audrey Osprey’s latest brood, was in danger after one of his talons became entangled in a fishing line in the nest last Sunday.

Ozzie, the 2 month old bird, could not free himself from the nest and would have starved to death. His two older siblings, Chester and Essie, have already fledged.
On Monday morning, a two person team climbed up to the nest during low tide, and freed Ozzie.
The location of the nest is kept secret for the safety of the birds. But, of course, there is video of the rescue and a live stream of life with the family. This is ‘reality TV’ at it’s best.

Thank you Chesapeake Conservancy for giving us this incredible view into the lives of one of the most cherished birds on the Bay, and for your efforts to make sure that all creatures have a chance to survive.

Sofie and I went down to the river to check on the dinner crab situation. You see, our water (the Magothy River) is directly off the the Chesapeake Bay, so we get the best Blue Crabs in the nation. All we have to do is put these crabpots* in the water and the silly things crawl inside (How dumb is that?).
Mom was checking but it doesn’t look like anyone crawled in. Our humans love crabs but Mom is just going to have to go find one of those trucks on the side of the road tonight and get whatever the seaman caught today. That’s me! Louise the Baydog
*Invented by Benjamine F. Lewis in the 1920’s, patented in 1928, and perfected 10 years later, the crabpot changed forever the way hard crabs are harvested on the Chesapeake Bay. The crabpot is the most common method used to catch and harvest crabs and is used worldwide.

Fall in the Chesapeake Bay region is absolutely lovely. The dogs stick their noses in the air and prance with an abandon like no other time of the year. Pine cones, sticks, and crazy squirrels keep them busy. They help me put the gardens ‘to bed’ and enjoy digging some new places for me to plant next year. It is sad to see the annuals die off but I am always glad to see a volunteer pull through the winter and surprise me the next season. For example those incredible Elephant Ears. I am not sure how that one got there since I do not remember planting them in that spot, but we do always have some in a pot on the deck. Maybe we threw a root over in the pile and it took hold. V just bought some black ones that we will winter over in the house and then see if they can WOW us next season like this astounding offering.

Breezy Point was a little breezy today. Did I explain that it is called that because it is the point where the Magothy River (which is our tributary to the Chesapeake Bay) splits into 2 creeks, Divining Creek and Mill Creek. I live in the middle of the 2 creeks and the peninsula point tends to always be breezy. This is one of my favorite spots and I think it is for the dogs too. The dogs and I love to go down to the very tip of the point and watch the boats out on the river and the seabirds doing their seabird things. Lulu likes to run in the stand of bamboo which is always getting overgrown and Sofie likes to venture out on the pier and sniff for new smells (she would like to dig in the sandbox, but I do not let her).
There
are days that I could just loose track of time watching the clouds go by but the dogs seem to have a different agenda. They need to always be moving. They want to run and find something new and exciting to do. They need to chase a squirrel or a stick or each other; not content to while away the afternoon with me just reading a book on a bench. So off we go on another adventure, somewhere, over a hill or visiting a dog friend. I guess there will be time enough, when they are older to sit and just enjoy the view (maybe), for now, we press on and go explore some other beautiful vista.
Do you have a favorite spot with your dog?
