Wordless Wednesday: Enough Boomers Already!

thunder

Mommy thinks that this stretchy shirt thingy will make me feel less crazy when the big boomers start outside the window. She says that there are elves in the sky rolling balls into pins and when they hit them it makes those big smashing sounds.  I am not sure that I believe her but the shirt does make me kind of sleepy.  I really only feel better when I am lying on Mommy’s feet and, of course, when they stop making all that racket.

thunder 2

And then just when the thunder stopped there was all these crack crack crack sounds from the house next door.  Mommy said that it was a silly holiday where people like to blow themselves up and shoot gun powder into the air.  Bowling elves in the sky and then crackers.  Where’s a girl to hide?  Oh, Peanut’s bed, of course, with Louise and Nine.  We were all kind of shook up.  Why don’t people do anything quietly!

We are speechless!  Thank you, Peanut, for saving us, and Mommy, for my new thunder shirt.

 Happy Wednesday!

Black and White Sunday: Ground Control To Major Sofie

sofie 7.6.14

Back in the “Cone of Glory” again.  Poor baby just can not get over these allergies.  Now she is biting her tail.  Changed food and now adding Omega-3 oil.  Please let me find the right combo for my little astro-nut.

Just a shout out to my baby human, Peanut, on your 20th bday today.  You are the dogs favorite, after Mommy, of course.

DogDaz Zoo: Get Your Stripe On

PATRIOTIC-ANIMALS
Source: http://webecoist.momtastic.com

Please remember that fireworks are scary to many animals (and humans, like me).  So be respectful of your neighbors if shooting of boomers and keep your pets inside once the sun goes down.  More animals are lost on July 4th than any other day of the year because they are running scared.  Make sure to have your pet’s ID tags on their collar.  Be smart, be safe, and most of all, be free.

Thank you to all who serve to keep us free.  I pray that all wars will someday end and we will have peace and prosperity throughout the lands.

Wordless Wednesday: Transporting Baby

WW BabyPeanut and I transported this very cute and shy pocket pittie from a shelter in Delaware to a foster home in Maryland.  We called her ‘Baby.’  She was such a sweetie.  Would you have room in your heart for her?  If so, please contact Canine Nation.  She brightened our day.  No words are needed to see how happy she was from some attention.  She did not want to leave us when we dropped her off.

 Happy Wednesday!

Monday Mischief: Amy’s Pool Is Open

Amy's Pool

Our bestest friend, and favorite yellow labby, Amy, has a great pool which we all love.  Mommy should get one like this and maybe, just maybe, I will go in it (but doubtful because it doesn’t come with an Amy inside).  She is a true water dog and spends most of her time in the river.  We like to run and play in Amy’s Mom’s yard (except when I get caught in the rose bushes).  It is nice having friends to get into mischief with.  Louise and Amy have been besties since they were little.  Lulu smiles for her in a different why (since Louise doesn’t like most doggies) and you can tell she loves her friend a lot.  Me, well, I like her too (she always has a hidden marrow bone somewhere in her yard that I can find). – Sofie Bear

Black and White Sunday: Call Me “Soda Pop”

Sofie June 29 2014A long time ago I started calling Sofie “Soda Pop,” and Louise “Lolly Pop.”   I have no idea why.  I have nicknames for all my pets and many of my humans.  My daughter is “Peanut” (that is because she was tiny when she was born), Noel is “Noey” or “Snoel,”  Nine is “Niner,” and baby Stella is “Stella Dora.”

Here is a picture of Sofie lying in the cool grass yesterday.  I noticed that her ‘snow nose” appears to be darkening (you can read about it here).  That makes me happy because it has been pink in the middle for a few years and I always hoped that the summer heat would bring back the black (or maybe it was the recent allergy treatment).

Do you have a “pet” name for your pet? (and why is a nickname also called a pet name?)

Hope you have a lovely Sunday!

DogDaz Warning: DEET In Dog Jerky Treats

I am sure that most of you have heard about the animals that have become sick and died because of contaminated dog and cat food from China. Since 2007, they have found MELAMINE in pet food and treats. Were you aware however, that since then the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reported over 4,800 complaints and 1,000+ dogs, 24 cats, and at least 3 people have died?  Most of this has been linked to Chicken JERKY TREATS.

jerky According to an article in The Capital newspaper (Tuesday, June 17, 2014) by Dr, Francine Rattner, a veterinarian at South Arundel Animal Hospital in Maryland, samples were taken by the FDA recently of chicken jerky treats from veterinarians across the United States who treated dogs that became ill after eating them.  It is shocking to find that the chemical analysis shows the treats contain two really bad things – the insect repellent DEET and the drug AMANTADINE.

DEET is a common insect repellent and pesticide.  Amantadine is a drug used to treat Parkinson’s disease, some types of flu viruses, and for pain management in dogs.  Dr Rattner supposes that maybe the poultry farmers were using it to prevent avian influenza in their chickens, though it is not legal to use that drug on poultry in the US.

There is no direct proof that the contaminants in the jerky treats are responsible for the problems, so the FDA has not recalled the Chinese-made treats and many stores still sell them.

I thought that I was being smart by avoiding treats labeled “Made in China,” but, what I learned was that packages can be labeled “Made in the USA,” even if they include ingredients sourced from other countries (since it is put together here).  The only way that you can actually know where the ingredients come from is to contact the maker of the product, and if you are lucky enough to get the right person, they can tell you where their source is.

Bottom line: If you want to feed your dog jerky treats, make them yourself or do without.

Louise asks Why?

PLZ, DON”T CHANCE GETTING ME SICK!
