1.1.13 Carpe Diem: 2013 Pick of the Litter Awards
I tried to wake the animals up to review the year before we move on to 2013, but they said to leave them alone.
My motto for 2013 is “Carpe Diem,” “Sieze the day!” I want to focus on each days wonders and dig deep into making every moment count. If not now, when? If not me, who?
Here is a recap of DogDaz month by month for 2012 before we move on:
January – At that point the blog was only 60 days new. The Muffin Man turned 18 or 19 (we never really knew his age).
February – Stella and Nine joined the family. Everyone was really excited. Nine was about 1 and Stella was 5 months old.
March – The dogs dug up the yard (for the first time) to free the mole Spring was definitely in the air (and under ground). Noel, the Christmas Cat, was 5. Mom was 55.
April – The kittens are fitting in really well…. maybe to well. Nine is taking over the world.
May – Louise is growing up and does a great job on the blog while Mom travels The dogs learned to sit pretty for spring pictures.
June – We highlighted the street animals of Istanbul, Turkey from Mom’s trip. Peanut graduated High School, so the dogs got to be in lots of prom pictures.
July – The dogs and cats took turns writing the blog while Mom was in Australia and had great fun when she returned. Stella turned 1. Peanut turned 18.
August – The true DogDaz of summer were upon us. Change was in the air. Constance was 5.
September – Peanut (the little little human) went off to college and we were all trying to get used to an empty nest.
October – Noel took over as top cat., we get hit with SuperStormSandy and Louise (aka Lulu Belle), turned 3.
November – Sofie turned 2 and the blog turned 1.
December – The Muffin Man and Miss Constance Kitty passed over the rainbow bridge to the great meadow. K8 (the middle little human) graduated from college and came home to stay (bye bye empty nest) – the animals (especially Stella) like having her to play with again.

12.29.12 Caturday: Catnip-apillars
Santa Paws brought Noel, Stella and I, Catnip-apillars. They are really cool and fun to play with. They smell really strong. Mom most have gone shopping for Santa Paws (we know he is busy and she is a very helpful person) because she tried to hide something that smelled a lot like this in her office and everywhere she put this one big gray bag, I found it and tried to get inside. Finally, she put it in the linen closet, which has a big knob on the door so I can’t get in. I bet she bought them for Santa Paws to give us. Our Mom really knows how to pick toys. Have a great Caturday – Nine, the DogDaz Mancat (do you like my new name for the New Year? Mommy says I am still just her Bullyboy).

12.24.12 Gratefully Awaiting Santa Paws
As we prepare for the arrival of Santa Paws, all of us at DogDaz (Cats2), want to wish the happiest of holiday seasons to all our friends out in cyberspace. We are so grateful for an incredible year of blogging and meeting new animal lovers, and writers, and photographers, and really cool people, who are willing to put their thoughts, pictures, and feelings out there to connect with the rest of us, no matter where we live, what we believe, or how poorly we type. May Santa Paws find you, wherever you are, and shower you with the kindness and peace of the season. Thank you all for reading, commenting, and most of all, for letting us be part of this new social community of animal lovers. You are my present and you have brought great joy to my heart. – Louise (aka Lulu Belle), Sofie Bear, Noel (the Christmas Cat), Nine, Baby Stella and, of course, Lorian (their human).

12.19.12 Wordless Wednesday: Whose Bed Is It Anyway?
Louise got a new bed from SantaPaws (Hanny the Hanukkah Fairy brought it), but neither Sofie Bear nor Nine will let her lay on it.
This is a Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop. Thanks to BlogPaws for the hop. Head over there and see what they are blogging about.

12.18.12 Playing Possum
12.15.12 Caturday: Extortion
I can’t really say what goes on behind closed doors at the zoo, but sometimes, I just think that Nine, the Bullyboy, is just trying to push all the other animals into compromising situations. In the end, we all know who is responsible. Like last night for example, I made tea and took out this lovely gluten-free chocolate chip cookie and placed it on the kitchen table. (I did notice Nine was watching but did not think much of it.) V and K8 were in the kitchen getting a snack too. I went over to the microwave to warm my water and when I returned to the table, no cookie. Kate said she picked up the paper from the floor a moment ago. I smelled both dog’s breath (Sofie seemed to have a hint of chocolate) but how did it get down on the floor? We know how and we know who. Just saying…..

12.11.12 An Incredible Heart: Goodbye Muffy
I probably told you The Muffin Man’s story more than once, but his story was one well worth telling. He was one of those cats that made every human feel like they were the only one in the world to him: you were his special human (while he was in your lap). When V went to pick a cat out at the shelter, Muffin picked V, not the other way around. He had only one problem his whole life, his heart. He had heart trouble and was on daily medication and regular EKG exams. I guess his heart was so incredibly loving that it just kept ticking despite what the vets’ thought. I am sorry to tell you that The Muffin Man’s heart, after 18 years or so, could no longer beat. His physical being has left this earth and us. We will love you forever, Muffy. You will always be our Muffin Man.
This loss hurts like losing Squash did, there are just some furry companions that have extra special strings.
Now we are 5 at the zoo from 7. This has been really hard.
