Louise loves to lay in the sun, but she is not a big fan of the humidity. Do you see her eye? So sad.

Today is Follow-up Friday hosted by Jodi from Heart Like A Dog. This is where we review the week behind so that we can launch into the week ahead (or something like that).
We are busier now then we ever were when Mom was working full-time. How can that be? So many things going on. Caturday we were thinking about Cuddles. She only liked V and was a real one person cat. But, for V she was a cuddler. We don’t have any cuddle cats now. 😦
Black and White Sunday was a sad sight of the dogs wishing for a swim in the pool. So I went and bought them one, which they snubbed immediately. No! They only want to swim in the big pool with the humans. They can’t come in for multiple reasons, but the biggest being that we have a liner that would tear from their claws. Liner pools are delicate that way. Plus, I really don’t want all that hair in the filter.

On left – dog pool; On right – my pool
Monday’s Mischief was a gazillion butterflies on our Butterfly bushes. We love to watch them dance and play. Luckily I had already scheduled that post because we got hit with a lightning strike on Sunday night which knocked out the TV, phone, and internet. We were out of service until Tuesday afternoon, which is why I missed the usual Tuesday’s Tail Blog Hop. But Noel did manage to post a notice from my Smartphone (that social cat). All the kids, and me, were freaking because we have become so dependent on our electronics. Humbling to have to do something else besides social media or TV for a few evenings.
Baby Stella was hiding in K8’s window on Wordless Wednesday. She just loves K8 and windows and hiding. MOL.
And then finally on Thankful Thursday, I was jubalant in finding out that Sofie’s rash was not scabbies, as I feared, but a skin bacteria, due to chubby skin folds staying wet too long and growing bad stuff. I can deal with that! Now I am going to collapse by the pool until further notice (and get those dogs swimming).

Happy Sofie home from vet with her favorite toy
That’s it for the week. Thanks for playing along with us. Check out the hop below and you can go play with others.

The girls were waiting at the top of the deck stairs while I was in the pool. These are the faces that made me go out and buy them a baby pool of their very own.
Happy Sunday! Keep Cool!

Today is Follow-up Friday hosted by Jodi from Heart Like A Dog. This is where we review the week behind so that we can launch into the week ahead (or something like that).

We finally arrived home after an 8 1/2 hr drive from the Carolina’s in torrential rain. It wasn’t fun.
We started our blog week back with a picture K8 took of the alligator behind our rental on our last morning in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. He was perfect for Mischief Monday, don’t you think?
By Tuesday we were settling back into the home and blog routine and we featured a lovely senior, named Steven, on Tuesday’s Tail Adoption Blog Hop

Louise was so excited to see me when I returned home (they were on vacation at Sonya’s) that she scratched the heck out of my leg. Ouch! She did not mean it, but those lab talons are wicked sharp.
Before we left I had noticed that Louise was licking herself a lot. Sonya, the most wonderful dog sitter in the world, called me while we were away to let me know that Louise had a cut in a very uncomfortable spot. Well, when I got home, it did not look good, so… off we went to Dr. Kate. Louise was not happy. Now she is on antibotics and is suppose to wear the cone of shame, but, I am keeping her with me and monitoring her licking, so that she does not have to go through the same humiliation that her silly little sister, Sofie, just finished going through last month. Sofie, of course, would not stop licking, Louise, is a good listener.

On Wordless Wednesday, Noel was wondering what special presents I brought from the beach. I did give her a shell, but she just ignored it. At least she did not scratch me. Nine is terrorizing her and even Stella seems to be getting into the act. What I don’t understand is why she doesn’t just sit on both those little cats and crush them, but she doesn’t. Ah, the life of an Alpha.
Finally on Thankful Thursday, I was able to thank Magdalena Vandenberg for giving me the wonderful Very Inspiring Blogger Award. I received it when I was away. What a nice return present.
It has been hotter than an oven since we returned so I am going out today to get the dogs a baby pool. We all need to cool off in the DOG DAZ (days) of summer.
That’s it for the week. Thanks for playing along with us. Check out the hop below and you can go play with others.

Today is Follow-up Friday hosted by Jodi from Heart Like A Dog. This is where we review the week behind so that we can launch into the week ahead (or something like that).
On
Caturday, we were remembering Miss Constance Kitty (RIP), when she was a kitten, and how she would always play with Squash E Bear’s (RIP) tail. It still cracks us up. She thought it was another kitten.
And since we were thinking about tails last weekend,
Sunday’s Black & White was a shot of the dogs down by the river at Breezy Point. You might be able to see black Louise in the distance by the trees but Sofie’s tail caught the very bottom of the shot. It reminded me of that game – “I Spy.” Did you find her? Most of you did.
On
Mischief Monday we went swimming in our Louise’s best girlfriend, Amy’s, pool. 3 dogs + 1 baby pool = lots of fun. Sofie likes to play alligator, where she gets all the way down in the water with just her eyes and ears out, but the labs don’t seem to find that funny. I do. BOL.

2 Labs and a Sofie tail
For our
Tuesday’s Tails Blog Hop, we featured the cutest long haired cat named Rags. We hope she finds her home. We only have short hair cats at the zoo right now and I think they shed way more than the long hairs do. Don’t you? If only people understood that, maybe they would adopt her quick, because she is a beauty.
Wordless Wednesday were some
Irish Wolfhounds from my business trip to Dublin, Ireland. I did not take the picture personally, but I really wanted to share these beautiful big dogs.
Wednesday was also my last day at IBM after 18 years. Over the years I got to see a lot of wonderful places and work with a bunch of great people. Everywhere I travel, you know I am attracted to the animals and try to bring some home to the blog. Now onto the rest of my life – more animals to see!
Thursday was
American Independence Day (Fourth of July) and we thanked all the humans and animals that keep us safe and free. Thank you for your service!!!! Please think about adopting a retired
military dog – what a wonderful, well trained, addition to any family.
We are also happy that Sofie’s toe is on the mend. She finishes the antibiotic today and seems to be leaving it alone, except for an occasional chew.
That’s it for the week. Thanks for playing along with us.
I am taking my first (much needed) family vacation in years starting tomorrow (isn’t forced retirement wonderful?). The daily zoo pictures will continue every day but not the hops and chats and I may be delayed on comment replies since I will be on the beach.
Warning: To any robbers out there, the house/cat sitter has a gun and knows how to use it, so don’t think that my house will be empty/ Also, we taught Noel to shoot just in case you get passed the door.
May you all have a wonderful week, DogDaz will return in full to cyberspace on Monday, 15 July.

I am thankful for my freedom. For the people (and animals) that help keep me safe. For the ability to speak my mind and believe what I believe, even if it is different than what other American’s believe. Today, the 4th of July, we celebrate our independence and freedom.

Dedicated on June 10, 2006, the United States War Dogs Memorial, located guarding the gateway to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial in Holmdel, New Jersey, consists of a bronze statue of a kneeling Vietnam War soldier and his dog, set on a black granite base. The memorial was designed by sculptor Bruce Lindsay, Architectural Division Manager at Johnson Atelier in Mercerville, New Jersey. A graduate of Bucknell University, Lindsay’s studio is adjacent to Grounds for Sculpture, the 22-acre sculpture park on the grounds of the former New Jersey State Fair. The U.S. War Dogs Memorial, while directly representing the War Dog Teams of the Vietnam War, honors all our nation’s war dogs and their handlers – past, present and future.

I’m also thankful that Sofie’s toe is feeling better.
