As the days go by with Mommy stuck in bed because of her foot surgery, I amass a larger and larger stash of cat toys next to her. I love all my little toys. Mom says that I like ‘catnip’ tea, because I suck on every cat toy in the house. Sucking on things makes me feel much better and I figure since it makes me feel better, I will bring them to Mom to make her better.
The Zoo is kind of funny when it comes to toys. Charles steals the biggest toys in the dogbox to play with (sometimes they are bigger than him). Louise likes Charles little tiny tennis balls to chew on (which freaks Mommy out so she watches very carefully to make sure nothing is swallowed). I prefer small soft toys – the smaller the better. Mom says “to each their own,” whatever that means.

We can’t believe that Miss Noel, the Christmas Cat, is a star. Bacon interviewed her on June 8th at PIGLOVE What an honor to be on Bacon’s blog.
We’ll let Bacon tell you ABOUT himself.
“I’m a miniature pot bellied pig. My mom/dad adopted me when I was a mere three weeks old and I’m just a tad bit spoiled. This blog is about ‘my misadventures’ in life here at the Hotel Thompson with my mom/dad and other friends listed below. We try our best to keep the humans on their toes. Someone has to and trust me – it’s a hard job with my mom and dad. They are always getting into trouble! My main goal on my blog is to bring a smile to your face. If I did that, I did my job well.”
Dear Readers – If Mom had her foot on straight she would not have thought that the interview was on June 18, when Bacon told her it was going to be on June 8th, and then miss posting on my big day. Mom hopes you all go visit Bacon and crew and let them know that DogDaz sent you and read my interview – since every cat needs their 15 minutes of fame and that was mine. – Gee Thanks, Mom – Noel, the Christmas Cat

Sometimes I am amazed at Sofie’s coat. It swirls and twists in amazing ways. She is a visually beautiful dog. But dogs don’t know how beautiful they are. They have no sense of vanity or visual beauty, those are complex human emotions. If Sofie was a human she would probably have mats in her hair and be unkempt if left to her own devices. I probably would be constantly putting her long blond hair in a braid or pigtails. Dogs don’t get caught up in the visual differences of their species. With no sense of visual beauty, what they see is valued on a different scale than ours. They lack the aesthetic sense of things. How different it would be to not know visual beauty. To experience a sunrise only as an astrological event, not as the deep oranges and reds that bring a new day. To look at a painting that moves you, and not feel moved. Ok, so now I have made myself sad.
But some define Beauty as Happiness. And I know that my dogs experience happy. So then, by this definition, they must be experiencing beauty. I like that. Beauty in the deepest sense. Beauty felt. I know this was a lot of words for a Wordless Wednesday, but do you think dogs experience beauty?

The 3 dogs and the cat-dog all want my lunch. It is kind of hard to ignore all the salivating stares when you are trying to have a bite to eat. They always have been beggers, but now that I have limited mobility, they all seem to push me around a lot more. They aren’t getting the exercise that they are used to, and just like me, all they want to do is eat right now it seems.

Oh, those begging eyes, Louise! I know that you want to go for a walk, but it still going to be a while. Good thing that I know how to resist those pitiful stares, well sort of.
(P.S. Do you notice Mini asleep in Charles bed in his exercise pen? She uses it much more than he does. Hahaha)

Mommy has not been able to walk us for 40 days now. I am dying. Even though Amanda and Sonya and Danielle all come and take us for walks, I want MOMMY!

Please Mommy, can’t you take that cast off already and walk me. No one walks like you do.

PLEASE, I promise to be good and eat all my dinner.

It is definitely spring and we are really enjoying being outdoors. We wish the kitties could come out into the garden with us too. Some dog (who will remain nameless) encouraged them to rip a hole in the expensive dog-nails proof screen and helped them to a moment on the deck. Mom was not happy especially since Nine’s adventure in the wild last year when he was gone for 2 days. Mini came through the hole, and being the sweet thing she is, walked up to V in the garage, wondering where all the fun was. That is how Mom found out about the new hole. This time, Nine stayed in the house. Maybe he remembered how scary the yard can be. Someone always seems to go wondering when Mom is not at her best. I guess the cats are just opportunists.
The days are getting longer and lighter. Even limpy Mom is coming out on the deck.
Have a wonderful Wednesday! – Louise, aka Lulu

Mini Cooper behaves more like a dog than a cat. She is extremely social and more forward than any cat that has every been at the zoo. She greets everyone at the door, tries to go for walks with the dogs, and is ever present, just like a dog. She wants to be on your lap whenever possible and loves to watch the fish in her fish tanks. She is a great little girl. Happy 3rd birthday, Mini Cooper, you bring us great joy!

This Memorial Day in the United States, please remember to honor our troops, our vets, and our fallen. Freedom costs us so much. Never take it for granted.
In loving memory of my Dad a US Army Sargeant in World War II. He never talked about it much, but was proud to serve. Came home with a bullet in his leg for the rest of his life. Dad refused the ‘Purple Heart’ medal*, as thousands of other soldiers did during that war, because he did not feel he earned it after seeing how badly wounded other’s were.
*More than a million Purple Hearts have been awarded since General Washington’s Badge of Military Merit was revived in 1932. The unique heart-shaped decoration continues to widely recognized by Americans. It also continues to be prized by all who receive it, probably because the award of a Purple Heart does not depend on any superior’s favor or approval. After all, the Purple Heart is unique as an egalitarian award in what is usually thought of as a nondemocratic, hierarchical military organization, since every man or woman in uniform who sheds blood or receives a qualifying injury while defending the nation receives the Purple Heart regardless of position, rank, status, or popularity.- ArmyHistory

Yeah! Memorial day weekend is opening day for the big pool. Don’t worry that it looks like a lagoon. Mom says the winter was so mild that all the green stuff called ‘algae’ had a lot of time to grow. She says it will burn away when the sun comes out (and after she throws in a ton of chlorine). She can’t go in anytime soon anyway because of her foot cast though she is still doing all the prep-work. That lady never sits still for long. We got a new friend this year, he’s called a ‘minion.’ We think his name is ‘Stuart.’
We can’t wait until the ducks try to swim in the lagoon so that we can chase them away. For now, we wait.
Have a great weekend!
