We are thankful to start the year off with a lovely Liebster Award from Mary at My Life With Christ. We love making new blog friends and really appreciate when someone reaches out and touches us. Mary is a young girl who is very passionate about her love of her god, Christ, and shares it through her blog.

The award rules are as follows:
1. Thank the person who nominated you, and link back and recognize their blog in your post. DONE
2. Answer the ten questions posted by the blogger who nominated you! BELOW
3. Nominate ten other bloggers for the award. I stopped nominating folks last year because there were too many awards flooding people’s blogs and so many of us were overwhelmed by them we could not enjoy them. I love you all and you know who you are.
4. Create ten questions for your nominees to answer. OH MY – THAT IS HARD – take a look at the thoughtful questions Mary gave me.
5. Notify your nominees via comment.
Questions Mary asked:
1.) What do you struggle with the most? Injustice in the world. The way that people treat each other and animals. It is hard sometimes to watch how cruel humans are to each other and everything around them.
2.) If you had one question to ask God, what would you ask? How can I be of better service?
3.) What are you most thankful for? My ability to find the good in things.
4.) How do you best handle heated/angry situations? With compassion as best I can.
5.) What is your favorite (Christian) song/band? Why? Don’t have one but I do like Gospel music
6.) Who is your inspiration? and why?The Dalai Lama, because he practices what he preaches.
7.) What is the best thing you have ever achieved at this time being? My best achievement is the love and respect of my family.
8.) What is your goal in life? To leave the world better than I found it.
9.) What are you most passionate about? My family and my animals (and my blogs)
10.) What did you regret doing the most? and what did you learn from it? (You can skip this if you’d like) I have few regrets. I learn something each day from other people, the animals, the universe. One should live in such a way that they have no regrets.
Mary – here is a DogDaz Pick of the Litter Award for you, for being so nice. – DogDaz

We at DogDaz have so much to be thankful for and today is the perfect Thursday to restart our Thankful Thursday blog hop because it is American Thanksgiving Day.

1. DogDaz is thankful for safe international travel and the ability to move around the planet, especially to get home to see her furries (and her humans).
2. We are thankful for a wonderful pet sitter who knows how to take such good care of the doggies when Mommy is off on her work journeys (Thank you Sonya and pack). And to V and K8 for feeding the cats everyday at home, which Mommy usually does.
3. We are thankful for all the wonderful and caring people in our life who feed us and love us and take us to the vet when we need it.
4. We are thankful for our blog friends who come back post after post, even when Mommy is not able to read their blogs because she is in a world that blocks internet access, or she is under a rock somewhere trying to lift the weight of the world.
Wishing everyone a safe and festive holiday season. And for those that celebrate Hanukkah – may your doughnuts be full of jelly and your candles be bright.

Dear Blog Friends –

DogDaz is coming up to our 2 year blogaversay in November and we are lucky to be blessed with a wonderful following of loyal readers and interactive commenters.
We absolutely positively want you to know, that it is Y – O – U that makes this blog what it is.
Today and everyday, we are Thankful for YOU!

Mom is going to work far, far away from home for awhile, so the usual blog hops and weekly rants will be down to one amazing, interesting, funny, or silly picture per day.
Though we are going to miss her, we dogs get to go on a vacation to Sonja’s until Mom returns. The poor kitties have to stay home with boring V (bet they feel like losers – BOL.)
Thank you all so much for being our fans and please do keep coming around to check out the daily DogDaz Zoo post. We will check into your blogs when we return.
Thank YOU – Thank YOU – Thank YOU
See you soon!
With love , licks and laughter –

Louise (Lulu Belle) – Sofie Bear – Noel, the Christmas Cat – Nine – Stella – and Mom

As the winds from Hurricane Karen swing back into the Mid-Atlantic, we are saying good-bye to the unusually hot Fall, and hello to more seasonable October weather (cold and wet). We have been very thankful for the added warmth that has allowed us to run around the river for a longer time and I am sure that the boating people were happy for extra days at sea. But now, with the dark mornings and the shorter days, it seems only right that the leaves actually fall to the ground, and that the earth begin her closure toward the cold months. I am a Fall person. It has always been a time of introspection, of pulling in, of preparing for the long dark time, after harvest. I love the colors, and the sound of the wind, and the cooler nights. I can’t say that I like the darker days, but they do allow for warm fires in the fireplace and soup and hot tea. Thank you, Great Spirit, for all the wonders of the universe that we are able to enjoy, every day. And, thank you for Fall.

I’m also thankful that Louise is healing well and that Sofie is staying out of the rose bushes.

Louise, with her head on my knee for protection at our vet visit this week. Good news is she is responding well to the Cyclosporin, even though it is not doing great things to her tummy. The vet says she needs to stay on it for another couple of months. I found the medicine at about half the cost on 1-800-Ped-Meds (not a recommendation just a fact – but I was happy with their service and they even sent a big bone for the dogs). Never used them before because I felt like the vet needed the income from the drug sales (I am so loyal it is probably stupid of me), but when medicine is over $400 for a 15 day supply, you have to get what you can, where you can, for as little cost as possible (especially when unemployed).
THANKFUL that it is working. Hopeful that when we take her off it, the Peri-anal Fistula disease is in remission.

The dogs like the hypoallergenic treats that Dr. Cate always has in her treat jar on the counter in the examination room. If you have to go to the doctor, at least you need to get a treat, or two, or three, or in Louise’s case, four. (She has lost weight with the meds, so treats keep flowing when she wants them.)
Thank you Dr. Gately-Dean, and the wonderful people at Greater South River Animal Hospital, for taking care of the DogDaz Zoo.

Today is Thankful Thursday and, as always, DogDaz has many things to be thankful for.
Today we are thankful for our freedom. We are so lucky to live somewhere that we are able to not have to worry much about losing our homes, our lives, or our loved ones. We walk the streets freely, with dogs in tow, and have peace and quiet around us. I wish that for everyone, everywhere – but I know it is not so.
Safety and freedom is something that I have always known as an American. My father fought in World War II and came home with a bullet in his leg for the rest of his life. My cousins and loved ones fought in Vietnam and other military events. I hate war, it makes no sense to me. But, whether I understand it or not, I am one of the luck ones.
Thank you to the men, women, and animals, who serve proudly to keep me and you safe.

What is it about the shift from August to September that makes everything change? Does the universe know what a calendar is or that we flipped a page? It must because this morning was so crisp and so… fall like. The leaves are starting to fall into the pool, so sadly, it will be closed this weekend. Summer is over.

Squash Fall 07
On the brighter side – I LOVE FALL!!!! I can smell the pumpkins and the wood in the fireplaces. I can feel the earth going to sleep, so that she can renew and restore and awaken in spring. I like wearing sweaters and taking long leaf falling walks with the puppies. I enjoy the turning of the leaves and the incredible colors and sites that they produce. Fall is home to me. Fall is comfort, like a bowl of good soup.

Louise Fall 2011
I am thankful for fall. What does the change of season mean to you?
(I know some of you are going into Spring right now, and that is OK too. BOL)

Today I am thankful for all the people that are working hard to stop the violence towards animals. This quote that popped up on my Tumblr feed the other day really made me stop and think. I hate when pictures come up on my Facebook or Tumblr of abused animals, but I guess they most. Do we need to see these horrible things so that we act to stop them? I really don’t like pictures of war and mutilation, but I think I understand them better now. I still don’t want to see them, but if they get one more human to perform an act of kindness, then I guess they are doing there job. What do you think?
