DogDaz Update from China: Ears is tired of the hotel room

Since there are no real live animals in Shenzhen, China, it seems, Ears and Turtle have taken a much larger role in the day to day entertainment department for me.  Not having a furry to pet is making me cranky.  So, Ears decided he would hop in my briefcase and try to come to work with me.

Sofie would do the same thing if she were here.

DogDaz Update From China: There’s Food, So Where Are The Pets?

Obviously they have cats somewhere in China. I found food and litter in the grocery store.

Obviously they have cats somewhere in China. I found food and litter.

There were signs of cats in a very small aisle in the grocery store,

Chinese dog treats in the grocery store. I don't see dogs anywhere, though.

There were also dog treats, but I have only seen 2 strays and 1 leashed dog in 3 weeks.  No cats.  Hummmm…..  I am really having animal withdrawal.  There are also no ground animals, no rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, not even snakes…  but I’ve been told if I go in the back of restaurants I will find rats.  Oh, I did see a bird at work last week.  I never realized how much I am tuned into the ‘other than’ human vibrations around me all the time, and without them, I am starting to get off balance.  I contemplated going to the Shenzhen zoo, but I am afraid that it might upset me if the living conditions are poor.

I miss my furries.  Sorry to whine.

DogDaz Zoo: Still Skyping

image

Nine is actually home, in the house, but Sofie is not there waiting with him (as this picture may imply).  He is probably wondering where she is and why his doggy pal is not around to play with.

Stella, on the other hand, is very happy that the ‘chasers’ are not around.  I hear that she is taking full advantage of a dogless house and is coming out much more.

Here is V Skyping with me in China.  Now you probably understand why the dogs are at Sonya’s: it’s not safe when I’m not there – wild animals roam the living room.  BOL

Notes from China: Friends @ Sonya’s While Mom’s Away

image

Sonya sent me an email with pictures and said that Louise and Sofie are doing fine staying in her care and with all their friends.

They seem to be having a relaxing time while I toil away in China working.  Ahhh, it is a dog’s life for sure.

They all went on a walk in the woods which must have been fun.

image
Sonya said that Sofie has been busy each night protecting them from foxes (or possums or raccoons or something — that they can’t see) and from deer.

They have a foster, Dee Dee, in the red harness next to Louise in the bottom picture, that actually whines even more than Sofie!

Dee Dee really likes Sofie, Sonya said.  She thinks it’s because Dee Dee used to live with a blonde Cairn terrier that Sonya just placed in a new home a few days after they come in to rescue.

That is Louise in the middle of the dalmatian pack.   The back row is Oreo, Millie & Jolene.  In front of Jolene is another black dog, Spunky and Sofie is under the chair on the right.

This sure made me smile a million miles away – Thanks Sonya for taking good care of my puppies.

Traveling with Ears

Whenever I travel – wherever I go – I always take Ears with me.  Ears is one of the first things V gave me when we met. Maybe he was won at a carnival, but I really don’t remember.  Ears comes with me, even if I am only going on an overnight.  You see, I always have a dog with me, no matter where I am in the world. (When at home, Ears lives on my night stand next to the bed.)

Ears China 1

Ears has been in more countries and states than most people, I guess.  I never thought to make him a passport, but if I did, I guess it would look a lot like mine (except no one asks him for his visa) and I think he was born in China, not the USA. – BOL

Somehow the cat’s toy turtle (which is actually one of Sofie’s favorites too) found it’s way into my suitcase on this trip.  (Did I ever tell you about the time I got to Switzerland and was unpacking my clothes to find a dog biscuit among my underclothes,  Hahahaha.  Truly, Nikki, my dog of the time, dropped it in while I was packing at home.  To this day (about 20 years later) – I still carry that petrified Milkbone in my bag.)

I have this tradition of leaving cards for V when I travel. Years ago, when I traveled less, I used to leave a card for everyday.  Now, especially with a 6 week trips, I leave one for every week . The cards are numbered and dated with instructions when to open (not that I am there to know).  I plan the cards between humor and missing you and lovey-dovey, to try and keep the momentum going. There is always usually one from V in my suitcase (hiding in some pocket).  This trip, I guess because it is sooooo long, even K8 made me a wonderful card.  She is such a good artist and makes really nice cards.  Having stuff from home makes living in a hotel room a little easier.

And, I always have my dog, Ears (who is such a good listener).

Sad Days With No Dogs – In China

Hi!  I am in Shenzhen, China and finally figured out how to get around the Great FireWALL of China so that I could blog.  If you are interested in my digital nightmare, you can see the story on my business blog:  The Digital Attitude: Becoming Eminent – Digital in China… or not!

I am going through animal withdrawal and it is really hard.  I have only seen 2 dogs in the week since I got here and no cats.  One dog was a scruffy little thing dodging traffic (I saw him from the bus while I was going to work and was so worried about him).  The other was a white Scotty on a leash.  I have heard a few birds in the trees but have not seen any yet.  The best I can show you is some local flowers – does anyone know what they are?  They are red and fuzzy.  Hopefully, some animals will cross my path in the next few weeks so I can blog about them.

I miss my furries (and humans), and obviously, I could not last without popping up in the blog once and awhile, because I miss all of you.  Well off to bed, still jet lagged by 13 hours.

(Hey when I pressed the publish button it told me this was my 1500th post.  How cool is that!)

Please Read: These Dog Treats Still Kill!!

This is a reblog of my post from March 2012.  Don’t feed your animals any JERKY unless you make it yourself.

—————————————————————-

Please Read: These Dog Treats Kill!

25MAR

Ok everyone…THESE are among the chicken treats responsible for killing dogs or making them seriously ill. Vets everywhere are now warning everyone to stop giving your dogs these treats. They are slowly shutting down dog’s kidneys and it is because of something they have in them, still as yet UNKNOWN. The fact that they don’t know what the contaminant is, is why the FDA  has not pulled these treats from stores. Do not buy ANY treats made in China, as that is where these contaminated, poisonous products are coming from. The FDA has received over 600 complaints on these….other brands are Canyon Creek Ranch and DOGSWELL.  Anyone feeding their dog chicken treats needs to look at the package carefully as the words “Made in China” can be very small… do not be fooled by the phrase “An American Company” they are using in large print! It’s a huge issue and is still being investigated! Please click share and pass along – it could save a life.  I think this is very scary.  Please comment if you know of any other brands to make my readers aware of.  Thanks – DogDaz
